Pikmin 3 confirmed for Wii U by creator Shigeru Miyamoto

Buy New Play Control! Pikmin for Wii Pikmin 3 for Wii U was confirmed on a private developer roundtable event during E3 2011 by the series’ creator Shigeru Miyamoto himself.

Ironically it was three years ago at E3 2008 where Mr. Miyamoto first mention the long-awaited sequel to 2004’s Pikmin 2. While the first two Pikmin games got re-released as a “New Play Control!” series on Wii — basically GameCube classics with added Wii motion controls — but a new sequel never appeared. At least now fans know they can look forward to the first Pikmin game in HD!

Mr. Miyamoto said that the upcoming Wii U console’s tablet controller was the motivation for moving Pikmin 3 from Wii to Wii U. He added that the new touch screen technology and HD TV video output made it the perfect system for the game.

The game is very far along in development. So who know, it might be a a launch title when the Wii U release date arrives in mid-2012.
