Halo Anniversary adds Kinect support

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary will have Kinect support confirmed Microsoft! This is the first time that the Halo series has added support for the Motion Camera System for the Xbox 360.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is an Xbox 360 remake of the original game (read my opinions in my Halo 1 review for original Xbox) which will include new features such as completely revamped graphics (which can be toggled between the new HD graphics or the old graphics!), online multiplayer in the form of both multiplayer deathmatch (built using the Halo Reach engine to recreate the maps, but feature melee attacks and all that Reach added) and online cooperative play through the campaign (which will hopefully include four-players, but it will include at least two-players like the original game) and now it even as Kinect support to add a whole-new way to play the hit game. Achievements have also been added for Halo fans to earn and they will go towards building your Halo Waypoint score as well, of course.

Kinect support for Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary was confirmed by Microsoft Game Studios VP Phil Spencer in a new interview.

“As a first party we believe that Kinect will be important to all genres of games, be it racing games with Forza, combat games like Ryse, even games like Halo Anniversary has Kinect integration.”

Additionally, Microsoft added that the Kinect functionality “won’t effect the core gameplay experience”, whatever that means. Going on to say it is simply an “additive feature” that is not required to enjoy the product.

They also said the following:

“It’s no surprise we’re exploring ways Kinect can enhance game experiences in authentic and meaningful ways. The Kinect features we’re exploring with ‘Halo: Anniversary’ are additive and will not affect the core gameplay experience or alter our mission of delivering a faithful recreation of the original game. That said we have nothing else to share just yet.”

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary will be released exclusively for the Xbox 360 on November 15, 2011.
