Chrono Trigger walkthrough video guide (SNES, Wii Virtual Console, DS, PSN, PS1, Retro, PC, iPhone, Mobile)

This Chrono Trigger walkthrough will guide you through the beginning to ending moments of cutscenes and gameplay for this beloved classic RPG from Square Enix, originally released for the Super NES in 1995.

The game was later re-released for the PSOne in a collection called “Final Fantasy Chronicles” where it was bundled with “Final Fantasy IV” in a two-disc set. It hit Japan on 1999 and North America in 2001. This version of the game was updated to include new anime cut-scenes that weren’t in the SNES original, bonuses for achieving different endings and subtle ties into Chrono Cross (the PS1 spiritual sequel). However the PS1 version was plagued by extremely slow loading times which lead to less-than-favorable reviews.

The game wasn’t seen again until modern times, when a greatly enhanced port was released for the DS on November 25, 2008. This version contained all of the anime cutscenes from the PS1 version while adding a much more accurate and all-new translation, two all-new areas (the Lost Sanctum and Dimensional Vortex), a new ending that further foreshadowed the PS1 sequel Chrono Cross; The inclusion of the Chrono Trigger soundtrack vocal song, “Singing Mountain”, into the game itself at the Dimensional Vortex (previously the song was only on the soundtrack, not in the actual game); also added were a default run option, a self-completing map screen, a dual-screen mode that took advantage of the DS’ two screens and completely cleared the top screen of obstructions (with menu options on the bottom), new touch-screen controls and a new “Arena” where you could freely battle monsters. Phew!

The original Super Nintendo version of the game was also recently re-released, in its original, completely unaltered form, for the Wii Virtual Console on May 16, 2011, with a European release scheduled for July 2011. Chrono Trigger has consistantly topped the charts as one of the most wanted Wii VC videogames, so kudos to Square and Nintendo for finally re-releasing it in its original form! You can purchase it for only 800 Nintendo Points (About $8.00).

Additionally, Chrono Trigger will be released for mobile platforms (hopefully this includes iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, iPad 2 and Android platforms) and the PlayStation Network (hopefully Xbox Live Arcade as well) in the coming future.
