Alan Wake 1 going multiplatform?

Alan Wake PS3 fake box art. Officially going multiplatform says Remedy
Alan Wake fans will be happy to know that more Alan Wake is coming soon! And hopefully Alan Wake 2 will follow! (it was previously outed on an artists resume and seems to assuredly be in development!).

What is odd is that the new Alan Wake content is NOT DLC nor did the news refer to the sequel; rather, it seems that Alan Wake 1 will be released for multiple platforms, hopefully in a new “Director’s Cut” or “Game of the Year”-style edition with extra content.

Here is the full statement from Remedy themselves:

“Fans of the franchise will be excited to learn that yes, more Wake is coming! But to be absolutely certain to avoid confusion, this next Wake installment will not be Alan Wake 2. But neither will it be DLC. The rest we’re saving for our official announcement when we’ll actually SHOW YOU.

We are really excited about this project which a slice of our team has been working on for the last months. It’s something that’ll definitely give more to the Wake fans out there, but just as importantly, this installment will also give an opportunity for players who aren’t familiar with the franchise to finally jump on board. We can’t wait to show you more, bear with us. Release dates, platforms and pricing are unconfirmed as of yet, but Fall 2011 is probably a good guess. More coming soon!”

Awesome! Alan Wake was a criminally underrated game and a title that should have sold many, many more copies. Hopefully going multiplatform will give it the chance to do just that and appeal to a much broader audience. We’ll surely see more at E3 2011, and hopefully also see the first official news on Alan Wake 2!

Here’s is a video showing off tons of Alan Wake 1 gameplay.
