The 3DS eShop will finally launch this month, near the end of May (still no exact date) and according to reports it is rumored to be launching with… Game Gear AND original Game Boy games!

Of course, we knew that the 3DS Virtual Console of the eShop would include Game Boy, Game Boy Color, TurboGrafx-16 and Game Gear games, but until now an actual launch line-up, and what systems would be included, was unknown.

Although the reports have not been confirmed, here is what the Japanese launch line-up is rumored to include:

Virtual Console GameBoy – Ikari no Yousai, Phantasm
Virtual Console Game Gear – Sonic & Tails 2, Sonic Drift 2, Dragon Crystal, Columns
Virtual Console GameBoy Color – Super Mario Land, The Legend of Zelda DX (Demo)
Virtual Console PC Engine – games TBA
3DS Ware – Rockman Dash 3 Prologue (200 yen), Petitcom (800 yen)
DSi Ware – Import DSi Ware from DSi to 3DS
3D ClassicExcitebike 3D, The Legend of Zelda 3D, Xevious 3D (these games are exactly the same as their original versions but remastered in stereoscopic 3D!)
Demos – 3D Video Player, 3D Game Trailer/Previews Channel, Fuji TV and Nippon TV Previews

Additionally, North American ESRB ratings have been revealed and they point to two third-party releases from the Game Boy and Game Boy Color. The first is Fortified Zone and the second is Avenging Spirit, both are rated E for Everyone and are from publisher Jaleco’s classic library.

Avenging Spirit is a side-scrolling platformer where the player can leave the character’s body and possess enemies! Whereas Fortified Spirit is a top-down shooter.
