Dragon Quest X was announced at the end of 2008, quite a long time ago, but has been nary heard from or about since it was first revealed. Developer Square Enix has been very tight-lipped regarding details on the upcoming Wii-exclusive game but we will hear more soon.

Finally they’e shed a little bit of new light on what will surely be a mammoth title, as the DS-exclusive Dragon Quest IX for DS was a huge hit, selling over 5 million worldwide. This definitely will bold well for sales of the 10th installment.

The biggest new revelation regarding Dragon Quest X, is not only will the game remain a Wii-exclusive, but the game is also influenced by Dragon Quest VIII, the PS2-exclusive entry in the series released in 2004 in Japan (2005 in America, 2006 elsewhere).

Additionally, Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii confirmed that they are nearing completion on the title, and will announce something new about the game by the end of the year.

“All we can say is that development is going well and we’re on the last parts of the game,” Horii said. “We can’t really share much else at this point, but by the end of this year we should be able to announce something regarding it. Something else we hear is that players want a new Dragon Quest that follows the same system of Dragon Quest VIII, so that’s something else we’re taking into consideration while in development for a Dragon Quest on Wii,” he said.
