BloodRayne 3, or rather, “BloodRayne: Betrayal”, has been officially announced by Majesco and developer WayForward Technologies for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network digital download.

BloodRayne: Betrayal stars the beautiful yet lethal dhampir (read: child of a vampire father and human mother), anti-heroine as she fights and feeds in a bloody new hack ‘n slash adventure.

“It’s been a long time since Rayne captivated players with her bold mix of brutality and beauty, and fans have been hounding us to release another BloodRayne installment,” said Jesse Sutton, CEO, Majesco Entertainment. “We are excited to once again partner with the creative and committed team at WayForward to bring Rayne back. BloodRayne: Betrayal delivers the action-packed experience franchise fans have been waiting for in a digital format that’s also accessible for new players unfamiliar with Rayne’s over-the-top, stylized gameplay.”

BloodRayne: Betrayal delivers stylish 2D side-scrolling action with a deadly dose of bloodshed. Players become Rayne, the sexy and dangerous dhampir born from the union of vampire and human, blessed with extraordinary strength, speed and agility, but cursed with a thirst for blood and weakness to sunlight. Begrudgingly recruited by the vampire hunting Brimstone Society for one final mission, Rayne teams up with a mysterious new friend to stop an evil vampire massacre. Introducing new characters, gruesome environmental puzzles and a full arsenal of lethal weapons including Rayne’s signature arm blades, BloodRayne: Betrayal stays true to the fan-favorite vampire game franchise while incorporating challenging new enemies and surprises specifically designed for mature audiences.

The game is being handled by WayForward as mentioned, who has some extremely nice and critically acclaimed games under their belts, including Contra 4 (DS), A Boy and His Blob (Wii) and Batman: The Brave and the Bold (Wii, DS), so the game is in pretty good hands. Now let’s see what they can do with some extra hardware power.

Here is the first teaser for BloodRayne: Betrayal.
