A fifth Resident Evil movie, Resident Evil 5 the movie if you will, hits theaters on September 14, 2012.

The film was already revealed literally directly after the huge success of the fourth film, Resident Evil Afterlife 3D. When that film did so well, by lead actress Milla Jovovich herself posted on her Twitter that the next movie was already assured.

She also revealed that the upcoming film would include the input of fans to shape how the film would be made and which characters from the games would appear in the film.

The flick will once again be distributed by Sony Pictures, and the release date reflects those of the previous films which also hit during September. And like all movies nowadays, this one will also make use of 3D (natch).

Resident Evil: Afterlife earned over $60.1 million in America, making it bigger Resident Evil film yet. And grossed over $236 million internationally, making it a pretty big success for the long-running franchise loosely based on Capcom’s best-selling and popular survival-horror videogames.
