Retro fans who may be weighing a 3DS purchase just got some more firepower headed their way!

Nintendo has made some major new announcements regarding their upcoming stereoscopic, glasses-free 3D system that releases at the end of this month.

Most exciting to retro gamers is the announcement that the 3DS Virtual Console will have more systems with classic games available than just the Game Boy and Game Boy Color.

In addition to the Game Boy and Game Boy Color library of titles, Nintendo will also be bringing select retro videogames from the Game Gear and TurboGrafx-16 system libraries to the 3DS Virtual Console!

Very cool! Much like the Virtual Console on the Wii, you can expect to see new games from the above four systems added every week.

But potentially even more exciting, Nintendo confirmed that they will also be “remastering” select retro titles to take full advantage of the 3DS’ stereoscopic 3D capabilities in a line of games for the 3DS Virtual Console dubbed “3D Classics”.

These games, like all Virtual Console titles on the 3DS, will be available via the “E-Shop Channel” which will launch for the system at the end of this May.

Along with the above updates, Nintendo also announced that all previous DSiWare titles will be available on the E-Shop of the 3DS! This means that hundreds of games will be available from day one! Also launching at the end of May will be the 3DS web browser, allowing you to freely browse the Internet via a Wi-Fi Connection.

And that’s not all! Capping of this important list of 3DS news, Nintendo announced that the E-Shop will provide a solution for transferring previously purchased DSiWare titles from your old DSi or DSi XL systems to your 3DS!

Kudos to Nintendo for listening to the complaint of fans and addressing all their concerns. I’m getting more excited for the 3DS everyday! 😀 I can’t WAIT to play Metroid 2: Return of Samus remastered in 3D! Make it happen Nintendo!
