The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening 3DS Virtual Console port will be coming to the upcoming system from Nintendo themselves, but there has been no word on what everyone REALLY wants….

A Link’s Awakening modern remake! Leave it to the fans to do something about it!

This updated version updates the sprites and overworld with some 16-bit touches straight out of A Link to the Past, alongside a more robust soundtrack and (most notably) a full color palate! Everything from the original is present as well, from the dialog scenes to the characters to even the many secret heart containers hidden over the island.

Developed by Xfixium in RPG Maker 2003, Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening 1.0 is a remake of the 8-bit portable classic The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. Long considered to be a fan-favorite, this title has only received one updated port for the GameBoy Color. And unlike that version which was simply colorized the game and added a new dungeon alongside unlockable pictures to find, this is a full on recreation that looks gorgeous!

You can download the fan-made Link’s Awakening 2011 remake now and it is fully playable. Do so, before it disappears!

In case you never played Link’s Awakening here is some footage of the Game Boy classic and one of my favorite games of all time.
