The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be released on November 11, 2011 (11/11/11) worldwide for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC announced Bethesda.

Skyrim of course is the direct-sequel to the RPG Game of the Year and one of Bethesda’s biggest hits of all time, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and definitely one of the most highly anticipated games of the year.

So it’s very fitting to see the game getting a “mystical” and easily remembered release date of 11/11/11, especially given that the game is nearly 10 months away!

Skyrim will be using an all-new engine, dubbed the “Creation Engine”, to take the franchise to new heights and offer the most impressive visuals to date from the developer.

To quote creative director Todd Howard,

“Because our worlds are so big all of the lighting has to be dynamic,” he said. “That’s something we had a little bit of in the past with shadowing, but not on everything. Now we have it on everything. It just makes the whole thing a lot more believable when you’re there.

The big things for us were to draw a lot of stuff in the distance so we have a really sophisticated level of detail, more so than what we’ve had in the past for how things stream in and how detail gets added to them as they get closer to the camera.”
