Mass Effect 2 on PS3 will reward gamers willing to wait to play on their preferred platform with enhanced graphics and visuals. This is because Mass Effect 2 on PS3 was built using the Mass Effect 3 engine! Huzzah!

In some ways, it’s kind of like getting a glimpse at the future of Mass Effect, as the game will look more in tune to what you can expect from Mass Effect 3 than the Xbox 360 or PC versions of the second game.

“One of the first things you’re going to see is improved graphics,” producer Jesse Houston told the official BioWare podcast. “We actually created the engine for Mass Effect 3 and used that to make Mass Effect 2 PS3. So we took the content, the story and all of the other assets that made up Mass Effect 2 and we put it into the Mass Effect 3 engine,” he said.

In addition, the PS3 version will have a new control scheme that matches the PS3 controller for a better fit, and will include fewer bugs and glitches than previous versions of the game (polish FTW!). The game also includes all of the previously released patches and tons of free DLC included on the disc.

Mass Effect 2 on PS3 will be released next year on January 18th in America/Canada, the 20th in Australia, and the 21st in Europe.

Here’s a comparison between the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions’ graphics from the demos.

Ferry adds: While they look nearly identical, the PS3 version looks to have slightly better lighting.
