OnLive PlayPack subscription to cost $10 a month starting January 15, 2011

OnLive Microconsole system and controller
OnLive will start a $10 subscription service on January 15, 2011 announced the company.

OnLive is a PC and TV service which uses Cloud Computing in order to allow users to play high-end PC games through the service using low-end computers or on your TV or other monitor-device via the “OnLive Microconsole”.

This subscription service is called “PlayPack” and will offer users a flat-rate of $10 a month for unlimited play of specific classic, Indie and a few recent titles.

However, “PlayPack” is still essentially the lower-tier. As several “PlayPass” plans will also be available, ranging from $3.99 up to $49.99 for 3-day, 5-day, or full-game passes. And these will be the only plans offered for newer titles, which you won’t be able to play with just a “PlayPack” subscription

However as games get older they will be moved into the PlayPack library of titles: “For example, NBA 2K11 just came out, so NBA 2K10 has been added to the PlayPack.”

40 games will be included in the PlayPack library starting out with “lots” more titles to be added soon and in the coming months.

Some examples of PlayPack games include: Unreal Tournament III, Lego Batman, and Tomb Raider: Underworld.

People who’ve already ordered the OnLive Microconsole will have access to the PlayPack plan for free until the official launch on January 15, 2011. For now OnLive is available only in America, but it is expected to launch in European countries over the next year.

Here is a video review of the service.
