Mark Wahlberg to star as Nathan Drake in the Uncharted Movie

Uncharted movie stars Mark Wahlberg
The Uncharted movie will have Mark Wahlberg playing as Nathan Drake in the films key role. Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci are also in the running to join the film.

The film is being helmed by writer/director David O. Russel who recently completed the film “The Fighter”, which also stars the direct/writer/actor duo of Mark Wahlberg and David O. Russel.

Although it hasn’t been confirmed, it seems that De Niro would be a pretty good fit for Drake’s mentor Victor “Sully” Sullivan.

This news was confirmed to IGN while the duo was promoting “The Fighter” as you can see 43 seconds into this clip.

Wahlberg is no stranger to videogame to film adaptations, having previously played Max Payne in the film of the same name based on Remedy’s hit third-person action titles in 2008. His most well known films include: Boogie Nights (1997), Planet of the Apes (2001), Rock Star (2001), The Italian Job (2003), I Heart Huckabees (2004), The Departed (2006), in which he was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Supporting Actor category, with the film taking Best Picture, Shooter (2007) and The Happening (2008). He also directed the hit TV Show The Entourage and was known as “Marky Mark” in the 90’s with his rap crew known as “The Funky Bunch”. You may have heard their song “Good Vibrations” which he wrote.

Do you think Mark Wahlberg is a good fit for Nathan Drake? Does he have the charisma to pull off the role?

PS: Nathan Fillion — of Firefly & Castle TV series fame — posted on Twitter that he’d love to play Drake in the movie, and even had his fans start a campaign to that end. But apparently the movie directors didn’t agree. Which is a shame, because aside from having the same first name, they even look/act alike.
