Mortal Kombat 2011 video explains Sub-Zero & Scorpion’s history

Mortal Kombat 2011 Sub-Zero backstory ninja artwork
Mortal Kombat 2011‘s Sub-Zero is the subject of the newest MK featurette. It details the returning fighters that Xbox 360 and PS3 players can look forward to seeing in Ed Boon’s phenomenal, upcoming reboot.

Hardcore MK fans of the classic early titles may be a little upset that previous backstory seems to have been replaced with a new story (or at least specific details changed), but either way it’s great to see the Mortal Kombat series returning to the strong story roots that gripped me so strong as a youngster.

Sure you came to Mortal Kombat 1, Mortal Kombat 2, Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat Trilogy and Mortal Kombat 4 for the awesome fighting and brutal finishers, but you stayed because of the interesting backstory, compelling characters and anticipation for the future plot you’d see in upcoming games and how Midway planned to tie it all together.

This video focuses on the history of Sub-Zero and his brothers in the ninja clan, and how the intense rivalry with Scorpion came to fruition.

I am a bit disappointed that the presentation of these backstory trailers doesn’t have more “punch”. I think they could’ve done them cooler. But they are still mighty fine pieces of work with some excellent artwork and it bodes extremely well for the upcoming game. Which I couldn’t be more excited for.
