Dead or Alive: Code Cronus and Project Progressive are officially cancelled revealed Team Ninja.

These projects were both games that were being worked on before the departure of Ninja Gaiden II director Tomonobu Itagaki left the company on bad terms and ended up forming his own company, Valhalla Game Studios with other ex-Team Ninja members, and working on the upcoming Devil’s Third project.

As far as Dead or Alive: Code Cronus is concerned, Team Ninja says the game never went beyond the “framework level” anyway and has been entirely scrapped. Whereas Project Progressive was canned a long time ago a whole five years before Itagaki left the studio.

This was revealed in a new interview with Famitsu. Team Ninja also stated that development on Ninja Gaiden 3, Ni-Oh and Dead or Alive: Dimensions for 3DS continues.

To quote:

“Ninja Gaiden 3 is a numbered title. We’re developing it with the idea of restarting at the beginning, saying ‘We’d like to make the action game that’s most interesting for the current era’,” said Hayashi of Team Ninja. “With this meaning, it’s going to be a game that’s not bound by the past more than necessary. Of course, we will be valuing the past, but in a good meaning we’d like to make it into a game that’s not tied down by the past. Development is progressing well and we’ve already completed an internal prototype. We held a sampling event for the prototype, and it was well received within the company. It will be a bit longer before we share info with everyone.”
