Red colored Wii and DSi celebrates Mario’s 25th birthday in Europe and Japan

Red Wii Mario 25th anniversary European PAL box artwork. Release date is October 29, 2010
The red-colored Wii has been officially announced for European release on October 29th and Japanese release on November 11th at a Japanese price point of ¥20,000 (about $250.00, rounded up). There is not yet a price for Europe but you can expect it to be about the same.

Sadly, the Red Wii, which celebrates Mario’s 25th Anniversary, has yet to be announced for North American release. For some reason we seem to be getting the shaft on this one so far just like with the Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary Collection Wii set!

The Red Wii system bundle includes not only a sweet, “I [heart] Mario” love-red-colored sheen on the system itself, but it also includes a red-colored Wii Remote Plus (a Wii Remote that includes Wii MotionPlus built directly into it) as well as a Red Nunchuck. Also included is a brand-spanking new copy of New Super Mario Bros. Wii. In addition, the system comes pre-loaded with the original Donkey Kong already in your Channels Menu, although whether this is the NES or Arcade version isn’t known.

Japan’s bundle also includes an updated Mario 25th Anniversary version of NES Super Mario Bros. 1 pre-loaded (instead of Donkey Kong), where the coin boxes have been replaced with the Mario 25th Anniversary logo. There is no word though on when or if this special version of SMB will be released outside Japan in any form. Hopefully it’ll come to Virtual Console or WiiWare for the world outside Japan soon.

Mario 25th Anniversary Red DSi XL comes to Europe. Release date is October 22, 2010

Last but not least, Europe will also be getting the Mario 25th Anniversary Edition red-colored DSi XL! This system looks exactly the same as before, but is colored red and includes iconic Mario power-up graphics on the top.

The red DSi XL will release in Europe on October 22nd. Price details aren’t yet available.
