Section 8: Prejudice has been announced by developer Timegate Studios.

Although no platforms were announced, the first game was released in September of 2009 on Xbox 360 and PC and came to the PS3 later-on as a downloadable title for PlayStation Network.

Section 8 was a first-person shooter in which characters wore power suits that allowed for quick boosting, hovering with a jetpack and could “burn in” once killed, allowing them to drop into any point on the map, eliminating the respawn points as in your typical shooter.

Although the game was primarily built as an online multiplayer title with up to 32-players and dedicated server support on both consoles and PC, the game also contained a single-player mode set on the same maps as multiplayer but containing a storyline and eight missions to tackle.

For the sequel, Timegate is adding the most requested feature which is cooperative play! It will also fix many of the other niggling issues that hampered the original game, will add improved matchmaking features, and will flesh out the single-player game both gameplay-wise and in terms of story.

Speaking to GameSpot, the developer had this to say about the co-op experience:

“One of the best modes is the dedicated Swarm mode. It was actually a server option in Section 8, but our community loved the option so much we ended up turning it into its own full game mode. The concept: You and a few friends atop a fortress against an overwhelming swarm of enemies, utilizing on-demand turrets and vehicles to stem the tide. The on-demand deployables make building a defensible base such a unique aspect of the game mode. We’ve seen internal testers play each map several different ways, and it’s awesome to see two teams approach the same map using completely different tactics. The harder difficulties really force you to think not only about where and what deployables you’ll build, but [also] what loadouts and positions your squad will take around the map. It’s basically co-op first-person shooter gameplay meets tower defense.”

The game will be released in 2011.
