999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors is coming to America thanks to Aksys Games, which will be localizing it and releasing it in the US this November.

The game is a traditional graphical text adventure which was released in Japan in December of 2009.

Giving a unique premise to adventure fans, the game features a storyline where nine different people from different backgrounds end up trapped inside a mysterious cruise ship. On said ship, they are haunted by a dark fate that has them solve puzzles within nine hours in order to escape death at sea.

Similar to the Professor Layton series in that sense (but with a lot more text, obviously), you will have to solve complex puzzles and riddles to help the people. Unlike Professor Layton, the storline here is much deeper. There is a lot of meat on the bones beyond just solving puzzles, which the developers say is only half the game.

The title was developed by Chunsoft, who was responsible for the acclaimed titles Shiren the Wanderer and 428, which were also similar games.

Glad to see more DS adventure games!
