Mortal Kombat Arcade Compilation listed on UK retailer

Mortal Kombat Compilation revealed
Mortal Kombat Arcade Compilation (that should read “Kompilation”) may have been unintentionally revealed via an online retailer in the United Kingdom that posted a listing for the game.

The game was described as a compilation of “Mortal Kombat 1, Mortal Kombat 2 and Ultimate MK3” and as “The first MK to have a High Definition aspect.”

However since the listing was discovered, it has now been removed from the site. Which may mean that the game was leaked ahead of an official announcement. It was also listed just for the PS3 with a release date set for November 2010. And since it was a retail listing that’d mean it was an actual physical product and not a downloadable title.

Currently, Warner Bros. Interactive owns the rights for the Mortal Kombat franchise, both current (they are publishing Mortal Kombat 9 aka “Mortal Kombat” for Xbox 360 & PS3 next year) and retro. After the collapse of Midway, all of the previously released downloadable Mortal Kombat games (which were MKII on PSN and Ultimate MK3 on Xbox Live Arcade) were removed.

It would make a ton of sense for The WB to revive these beloved, classic fighting games to drum up more interest in the property ahead of the new game.

However I HOPE that they don’t skimp on the compilation and only include those three games. I am so sick of Midway skipping over Mortal Kombat Trilogy which was vastly superior to Ultimate MK3, even though Trilogy was a home console release and not an arcade game.

Either way, I hope that this compilation includes Mortal Kombat 1, Mortal Kombat 2, Mortal Kombat 3 (original), Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Mortal Kombat 4 and Mortal Kombat Gold and Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks (just for kicks!). Just give us all of them and make everyone happy! And include online support for all the titles. I think every MK fan would easily pay $60 for that whole set, but NOT if you only include 3 games.

Though part of me also thinks they need to just re-release each game via Xbox Live Arcade (including Trilogy and 4) and PlayStation Network instead of on a retail disc…. Hell just do them both. That way fans who ONLY want MK2 can get their MK2 while those who want the whole set will spring for the disc! DOOO ITTTT.

Here is a video showcasing EVERY FATALITY from every Mortal Kombat. And don’t forget to click each game name above to go to our Fatalities and Unlockable Characters list page for each classic MK, which will show you how to perform every Finishing Move and unlock all secrets.
