Catherine announced as first HD game from Atlus’ Persona team for PS3 and Xbox 360

Catherine PS3/Xbox 360 RPG adventure from Atlus and Persona developer
Catherine has been announced for PS3 and Xbox 360 by Atlus with the first trailer revealed to coincide with Gamescom 2010.

The game is being developed by the team that brought you Persona, and incredibly, this marks the first game from the RPG powerhouse Atlus to be released for the current generation of consoles. This game has been built from the ground up for HD and is 80% complete with a Japanese release set for this Winter on Xbox 360 and PS3.

Very little about the game is actually known however it is easily apparent that the game is an erotic adult-oriented title.

The game is an action adventure, with a storyline that deals with very adult themes with love and sex being prominent throughout. And unlike most games, not only are there sexual and romantic themes, but they are shown visually as well with very “shockingly adult scenes” being prominent.

Like the Shin Megami Tensei or Persona series of titles, everything is very weird and mysterious in Catherine, whose storyline follows that of a salaryman named Vincent who starts having strange nightmares after meeting a 22-year-old girl, the titular Catherine. In his dreams he is transported into a creepy world with an unending staircase. He is told by a creepy ram, which you can see in the trailer, that he must make it to the top of the staircase to escape his dream.

It’s impossible to make true sense of what is going on, but here is the official trailer. Warning, adult content within.
