The Xbox Live Arcade Summer of Arcade might as well be extended one more week to August 25th, following the release of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, because that’s when Shank lands to make mincemeat out of you.

Also releasing for PlayStation Network on August 24th and for PC this Fall 2010, Shank is a highly anticipated, highly stylized, upcoming side-scrolling action game that looks to mix elements of Devil May Cry’s gun battles with intense beat ’em up-style fighting and an awesome, animated cartoon graphical style.

Toss in a lot of story elements, buttery smooth animation, animated-cartoon-style movie scenes, copious amounts of blood and gore, the ability to shoot two guys on opposite sides of the screen AT ONCE, wicked combos involving knives AND chainsaws, side-scrolling action and a script written by God of War co-creator Marianne Krawczyk…. And you have a recipe for success!

Shank tells a classic story of gangland betrayal through a mature, pulp-fiction lens. Gamers will play as Shank, getting their hands bloody as they uncover the secrets behind Shank’s past and the reasons he is hell-bent on revenge.

With a deep and intuitive combat system, players unleash a tremendous number of creative combinations as they take down the waves of enemies standing in their path. Shank also features a special co-operative mission, designed to be played with a friend locally, which tells the backstory to frame the revenge plot. This prequel mission allows players to play as Shank or his partner-in-crime Falcone, with deadly double-team moves and gameplay that encourages teamwork.

This preview video gives you an in-depth look at the upcoming actioneer and shows off tons of footage, both gameplay and cutscenes-wise.
