Star Fox 64 3D announced for 3DS

Starfox 64 3D is coming to the Nintendo 3DS announced the company at the E3 2010 show.

Starfox 64 was one of the biggest games for the Nintendo 64 when it was released way back in 1997 and is still considered by many today to be the best game in the Starfox series (with the possible exception of the original Starfox SNES). It also was the first console videogame to introduce force-feedback rumbling, as the game had the N64 Rumble Pak accessory included in the package. It was re-released for the Wii Virtual Console in 2007.

This version will be an upgraded version, with a graphical face-lift, new touch-screen controls (presumably) and 3D-effects built-in that take advantage of the 3DS’ 3D-without-glasses top-screen. Presumably the rumble feature will not be included though, as I don’t think the 3DS can do rumble.

Starfox has been out of commission since 2006’s Starfox Command for the DS, so it’s good to see Nintendo going back to one of the best games in the franchise and reviving it for the 3DS.

However I’m still not sure what I think about having Nintendo 64 “3D” updates for the system . . . . It looks like Nintendo will be milking a lot of their Nintendo 64 hits and just releasing them in spruced up-style. As already they have announced both Starfox 64 and Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the system. Then again, with the caliber of quality of these two titles, should anyone really complain?
