Mario Kart 3DS is the latest game, the seventh, in the long-running Mario Kart kart-racing series.

Announced at E3 2010, it will be the first Mario Kart for the upcoming Nintendo 3DS, the portable successor to the DS that features 3D screens (without the need for glasses), as revealed at the Nintendo E3 2010 Press Conference.

Nothing about the game is yet known, but it will be in 3D and will likely build on all the features that made Mario Kart DS one of the best-selling games on that platform. And that game included online play, a key feature that will likely return (hopefully with full voice chat, something Mario Kart DS lacked).

You can also get a glimpse at some of the characters and stages in the game, such as Princess Peach’s Castle, what looks to be Wuhu Island from Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort and Mario and Luigi as playable characters.

The final build is likely to feature many of the same characters, hopefully more, as Mario Kart DS along with varying carts with different stats.

Hopefully a gameplay trailer for the game will be released soon.
