Silent Hill 8 has just been announced at Konami’s E3 2008 Press Conference for Xbox 360 and PS3!

This newest title will be developed by Vatra.

The game will be the latest entry in the long-running horror series that got it’s start on the PS1, but will be the first true “core” entry in the series in quite a while. Especially since some people weren’t so hot on recent installments like Silent Hill: Homecoming and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. The last numbered entry in the series was Silent Hill 4: The Room, a game which some people considered a step down from previous entries Silent Hill 2 (considered by most to be the high point) and Silent Hill 3. The original Silent Hill 1 was also remade with Silent Hill: Origins.

The survival horror experience begins after a prison transport vehicle careens off the road, leaving lone inmate Murphy Pendleton stranded in Silent Hill.

Gamers will encounter mind-bending puzzles, as well as horrific creatures and other world terrors using everyday objects from wooden chairs to glass bottles to fend off their enemies.

The natural response, fight or flight is left to the player as they unravel a dark, thought-provoking storyline which will appeal to fans of the early, classic Silent Hill series, as well as anyone who enjoys a deep, psychological horror experience.

In addition to the main storyline, players will also delve into side quests that can change depending on the play style, and will also reveal “unknown” evils within the town.

Here is the official debut trailer for New Silent Hill from the E3 2010 Konami Press Conference.

The Silent Hill 2 movie was also confirmed as in development, with the composer of the Dexter TV series soundtrack creating the music for both the game and the film.
