The magic is building in this new Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 trailer which shows the first gameplay footage for the upcoming videogame based on the popular Harry Potter franchise.

Going by the footage shown below, the game looks to be everything you’d come to expect from Traveller’s Tales’ Lego-ized take on the Harry Potter franchise. Which is really as perfect of a fit as you can get. I’d argue it may be even better of a fit than Lego and Star Wars was in Lego Star Wars.

And a much better fit than Lego Batman, Lego Rock Band or Lego Indiana Jones 2, even though I enjoyed the original game tremendously as you can read in my Lego Indiana Jones review.

At this point the formula is running stale, but I think taking the concept into the Harry Potter world will give the developers enough content and videogame ideas to work off; Giving the series its magic back. Since the Harry Potter series as a whole has videogame-like aspects running all the way through it, which are ripe for the Lego videogame franchise to pick from and make into cool puzzles, which the Lego series is known for.

Here is the trailer for the game.

It will be released in early 2010 for Wii, DS, Xbox 360, PS3, PSP and PC.
