The WarCraft movie has just got another injection of supreme legitimacy.

The World of Warcraft movie is being made by Sam Raimi of Spider-Man fame for 2011. The official subtitle of the film will be, “The Rise of the Lich King”, although it’s unclear right now whether the film name will be called “WarCraft” or “World of WarCraft“.

Either way, the storyline of the game will likely be great, because it is being written by an incredibly talented scriptwriter. The script is being penned by Robert Rodat, who wrote the scripts for The Patriot, Saving Private Ryan and Fly Away Home.

The film will revolve around the character of Arthas Menethil, the paladin prince who is eventually corrupted to the point of becoming the universally feared undead lord known as the Lich King.

Speaking about the film to MTV News, Raimi said:

“We want to be really faithful to the game…to the Horde and the Alliance and the mythology that takes place in the game, and the archetypes that the game presents,” Raimi said. “I think we would try and find touchstones within the game to make it accurate and true and choose one or some of the lands that are portrayed in the game with as much accuracy and authenticity as possible.”

Speaking of the scriptwriter, he stated: “We would have our writer, Robert Rodat, really craft an original story within that world that feels like a World of Warcraft adventure. Only obviously it’s very different ’cause it’s expanded and translated into the world of a motion picture.”

Rodat is highly acclaimed, and even won an Oscar for Saving Private Ryan. Not much else is known about the film, which will be produced by Legendary Pictures and distributed by Warner Bros, but hey, so far, so good!
