HOW TO UNLOCK A HIDDEN CHARACTER
You can unlock a hidden playable character in Super Mario Galaxy! To do so, you first need to find and collect all 120 Stars in the game. Then return to Rosalina on the Comet Observatory and request to fight Bowser again. Finish the credits and you will get a message saying that a new character is now playable. No, we’re not telling who it is.
HOW TO COLLECT A ONE-HUNDRED-TWENTY-FIRST STAR
There is way to get OVER 120 Stars in Super Mario Galaxy! To do so, you will need to unlock the “Grand Finale Galaxy”. You can do this by collecting all 120 Stars and beating Bowser with the hidden character (see above). You will then find that a new Galaxy has been unlocked. You can find this Galaxy from the Green Trial Planet, which is the Star Festival seen in the beginning of the game! If you collect 100 Purple Coins in this Galaxy, you will unlock the final and 121st Star!
HOW TO UNLOCK THE DEATH COUNT COUNTER
There is another secret that is part of the Grand Finale Galaxy. Unlocking it as described above, will also add a new feature. This feature is a Death Count, that allows you to see how many times you have died in the game (a feature that’s a staple of the Zelda series). You can see this number of how many times you have died for both playable characters on the File Select Screen.
HOW TO TURN THE COCONUTS INTO WATERMELONS
Collect 9999 Star Bits in the Hub to turn all of the Coconuts in the game into Watermelons.
HOW TO GET A STARTING BOOST WHILE RACING COSMO MARIO
As you are about to race Cosmo Mario, there is a way to get a starting boost which should put you in the lead right out the gate. As the Countdown Starts, hold Forward on the Control Stick. When the Countdown hits 2, hold Z to Crouch. Then when the race starts, hit the A Button right away. This will cause Mario to turn yellow for a few seconds, giving him a speed boost.
