Take a closer look at all 12 sports and activities available in Nintendo’s Wii Sports sequel that’s out worldwide by July 26th.

Swordplay

Wii Sports Resort with Wii MotionPlus on Wii Cheat code: Play at sunset in Event 1: At the character select screen, put the hand cursor over the option to validate the character. Hold the 2 Button and press the A Button to validate. Wait to release the 2 Button until you reach the next screen AKA the warning message. Then this Swordplay event will take place at sunset, instead at mid-day sun.
How to play: Hold the Wii Remote with both hands, with the + Control Pad facing you. The motions you make with the Wii Remote will be directly translated into the motions your Mii makes with their sword.

Protip Duel mode: (1-2 players) Wait for the perfect moment to strike and then do everything in your power to send your opponent over the edge. Keep an eye on the angle of your rival’s sword as you look for openings, and be sure to hold the Wii Remote in just the right place to block attacks.
Collectable Stamps in Duel mode: Follow the instructions from Joe to unlock these stamps…
* Swordplay Duel Cliff-hanger – The final battle ring appears if the two opponents are still locked in a draw after three rounds. It doesn’t matter whether you win or lose. You can get this stamp in single-player mode only.
* Straight to the Point – Push your opponent out of the ring with a lunge in single-player mode.
* Met Your Match – Draw three rounds in a row to get to the final battle ring, then draw again for a completely even match in single-player mode. You may not have won, but it’s no easy feat!
* One-Hit Wonder – Push your opponent out of the ring with only one strike in single-player mode.
* Last Mii Standing – Defeat the Champion in a duel. The key is to never let your defenses down and attack any gaps you see. There may be some sort of reward if you win this…

Protip Speed Slice mode: (1-2 players) Put your hand-eye coordination to the test as you attempt to slice through all kinds of objects before your opponent can even react. Whether you’re slicing giant melons, logs or cake, the aim of the game is to swing the Wii Remote in the exact direction displayed by arrows that appear on the screen. Make the wrong move, and Wii MotionPlus will know!
Collectable Stamps in Speed Slice mode: Follow the instructions from Joe to unlock these stamps…
* Slice and Dice – Win the contest without missing a single object by slicing the wrong way or failing to slice within the time limit. You can only get this stamp in single-player mode.
* Correctly slice at least one of each of the 18 types of objects in single-player mode. Different colors count as different types. You’ll need to play several rounds to get them all!
* Psychic Slice – Cut an object correctly before it even hits the ground in single-player mode. You have to be psychic–or lucky– to pull this off!
* Double Time – Slice the alarm clock when the two digits on the display are the same, such as 8.8, 7.7 or 6.6. You can only get this stamp in single-player mode.
* Beat the Speed Slice Champion. Empty your mind and slice with your instincts!

Protip Showdown mode: (1 player) Take on all-corners as an assemply line of enemy Mii characters try to hit you three times and end your attempts to advance along different Island paths. Each level brings a progression of increasingly tough challenges to overcome — with stronger enemies coming in greater numbers to test your Swordplay skills to the limit.
Collectable Stamps in Showdown mode: Follow the instructions from Joe to unlock these stamps…
* Not A Scratch – Clear any stage without taking a hit and losing a heart.
* Sword Fighter – Defeat all of your foes to clear the first 10 stages. You can’t just swing wildly and hoping for the best — It takes finesse.
* Perfect 10 – Clear stage 10 without taking a single hit and losing a heart.
* Swordmaster – Fight through the final Showdown stage. You must master the art of parrying.
* Untouchable – Fight through the final Showdown stage without taking a single hit and losing a heart.

Note: An additional Wii MotionPlus accessory is required to play with a 2nd player in Duel or Speed Slice mode.

See how to play the swords in Wii Sports Resort.

After you defeat Matt during a Swordplay duel, you can wield the purple sword by holding the “one button” before you start dueling. It has the same effect as the blue sword though, but it looks cooler.

Wakeboarding

How to play: Hold the Wii Remote horizontally with the + Control Pad facing upwards.
Protip for Wakeboarding: (1-4 players) Play alone or take turns to see who can rack up the highest score by stringing together stunts. Every time you land safely in the water the ride will get faster, increasing the potential for acrobatic airtime. Be careful to avoid obstacles though, or your efforts could end in a giant bellyflop.
Collectable Stamps: Follow the instructions to unlock these stamps…
* Huge Air – Score 100 points on a single jump! Build up your speed and pull off some massive air.
* Bag of Tricks – Land seven or more different kinds of jumps on a single run. Try changing up your speed and length of your approach to the wake to pull off different jumps.
* Smooth Landing – Land 10 successful jumps in a row. Even if you pull off an amazing jump, it won’t mean anything if you don’t land it right. Keep your board flat when landing.
* Master Carver – Score 1,000 points or more on the Expert level without hitting any obstacles.
* The Long Way Home – Land 50 jumps and wakeboard all the way around Wuhu Island in Free-Cruising Mode. You have to complete a course afterwards to get the stamp.

In Wakeboarding you can do crazy stunts (as shown in this video) to score a lot of points!

Frisbee

How to play: Hold the B Button and make a sideways flicking motion with the Wii Remote to throw your Frisbee. Choose from Manual or Automatic Style controls, which determine whether you must release the B Button in order to throw the Frisbee.
Protip Frisbee Dog mode: (1-4 players) Aim for an arrow on the beach and send your Frisbee as close to it as you possibly can. Watching your dog leap into the air to grab the flying disc is fun, but the real satisfaction lies in the score bonuses awarded for accurate throwing. Burst orange balloons with your Frisbee for extra points!
Protip Frisbee Golf mode: (1-4 players) Translate your perfected throwing action into a par-busting performance on the golf course. Play three, nine or eighteen holes with rival Frisbee flingers and choose from three different kinds of disc as you attempt to hit a target in as few throws as possible.

Throwing a disc in Wii Sports Resort uses the same techniques as throwing a Frisbee for real (without the letting go part!)

Archery

How to play: Hold the Wii Remote vertically in your left hand and the Nunchuk in your right hand.
Protip for Archery: (1-4 players) Figure out the physics of how your arrow will fly, then go for a bullseye as you and your friends and family compete to hit targets that get increasingly far away and might even start to move. Try your hand on Beginner, Intermediate and Expert archery ranges.

How does Archery work in Wii Sports Resort? This video shows the Wii MotionPlus precision is required.

Collectable Stamps: Follow the instructions to unlock these stamps…
* Secret Target – Hit all the hidden fruits in a row in one game. Jonas tipped us off that the fruit are not registered if you hit the orange in the first game, and then the melon after finishing the game the first time. You have to do the same on Beginners, Intermediate, and Expert ranges. For fruit locations, take a look at the videos below.

How to find the secret fruits hidden in the Archery ranges for extra points. The Beginners ranges hide an: orange, melon, pumpkin, and strawberry.

Basketball

Cheat code: Play at night in Event 2: At the character select screen, put the hand cursor over the option to validate the character. Hold the 2 Button and press the A Button to validate. Wait to release the 2 Button at the next screen AKA the warning message. Then this Basketball event will take place at night, instead at daytime.
How to play: Hold the Wii Remote with the + Control Pad facing upwards. In a 3-on-3 Match, bounce the ball by moving the Wii Remote up and down as if you were bouncing a real ball.
Protip 3-Point Contest mode: (1-4 players) Can you sink 25 baskets in 60 seconds? It takes concentration, skill and speed to succeed in the 3-Point Contest — not to mention the ability to hold your nerve as you shoot for a new record.
Protip 3-on-3 Game mode: (1-2 players) Go for glory in three minute match-ups against a friend or computer opponent. Dribble the ball by making the relevant motion with the Wii Remote, and pass between your team as you look for a shooting opportunity — being careful not to have the ball stolen away. For the ultimate satisfaction, make enough space on the court for a spectacular slam dunk!
Note: Additional Wii MotionPlus accessories are required to play with up to 4 players in 3-on-3 Game mode.

Table Tennis

How to play: Hold the Wii Remote as if it is the handle of a Table Tennis bat. Swing the controller to return the ball, twisting it to alter the angle and direction of your shot. The position of the Wii Remote when you swing it will determine whether you play a forehand or backhand.
Protip Match mode: (1-2 players) Take on a friend or computer-controlled Mii as you engage in frantic rallies and try to claim six points before your opponent. Only spot-on timing and perfect ball placement will see you crowned king of the table.
Protip Return Challenge mode: (1 player) Return every ball the coach serves in your direction to earn points, reacting more quickly as the balls start to come faster. Place your returns in just the right spot to knock over a can that appears around the table to earn big bonuses!
Note: An additional Wii MotionPlus accessory is required to play with a 2nd player in Match mode.

Golf

Cheat code: Get rid of the meters: At the select course screen, put the hand cursor over the course of your choice. Hold the 2 Button and press the A Button to validate the course. Wait to release the 2 Button at the next screen AKA the warning message. The in-game meters for map, wind & power will disappear. All except for the meter that sets the direction when you are on the green.
How to play: Hold the Wii Remote with both hands; resting your thumbs on the front of it.
Protip for Golf: (1-4 players) Join your friends at the foot of the fairway and decide if you want to play three, nine or eighteen holes around Wuhu Island. Keep your eye on the strength of the prevailing wind and choose carefully from eight different clubs as you gun for the greens.

Bowling

Cheat code 1: Change the bowlingball’s color: At the character select screen, put the hand cursor over the option to validate the character. Then press the corresponding directions on the + Control Pad…
* For a Golden Ball: hold Right and press the A Button, release Right at the next screen AKA the warning message.
* For a Pink Ball: hold Left and press the A Button, release Left at the next screen AKA the warning message.
* For a Green Ball: hold Down and press the A Button, release Down at the next screen AKA the warning message.
Cheat code 2: Scare the bowling alley’s crowd: When you are about the throw the ball, release the B Button when your arm (the one that’s holding the Wii Remote) is all the way behind you. Then you’ll throw the ball backwards, and the Mii’s will jump up all scared, spin, and cheer.
Cheat code 3: Always get a strike in 100-Pin Game: Get a secret strike by throwing your bowling ball on the right or the left rail. Move your Mii to the rail, and set its position with the Direction & Position options beforehand to get close to the rail. The dotted line must be almost parallel, but lighty turned, to the rail. If your throw was successful, the bowling ball will ride out the rail until you hear an explosion that causes the ground to shake, thus knocking down all 100 pins. Do this 13 times in a row for a perfect score of 3,000 points.
How to play: Hold the Wii Remote flat with the + Control Pad facing upwards, then press the B Button to initiate the throw.
Protip 10-Pin Game mode: (1-4 players) Aim for the highest score possible against friends and family in a classic 10-pin bowling match-up. Manoeuvre your Mii into position, then send the ball hurtling towards the pins with a simple swing of the Wii Remote.
Protip 100-Pin Game mode: (1-4 players) Experience the unique satisfaction of scoring a strike when the stakes are 10 times as high. See who can be the first to knock down all 100 pins as you and your friends aim for the kind of high score that would break the average bowling alley computer.
Protip Spin Control mode: (1-4 players) Take full advantage of the extra level of control offered by Wii MotionPlus by avoiding obstacles placed in the lane. It’s the ultimate test of your Wii Sports Resort Bowling expertise, and a chance to show everyone your finely-tuned throwing technique.

Bowling is making its come back in Wii Sports Resort.

Power Cruising

How to play: Hold the Wii Remote and Nunchuk horizontally to replicate the action of holding handlebars, and tilt them left or right to make your Mii steer the power cruiser.
Protip Slalom Course mode: (1 player) You’ll virtually feel the spray of water as you race through floating arches against the clock. The sooner you reach a checkpoint, the more points you’ll earn. Boost over waves to jump through harder-to-reach checkpoints, and look out for opportunities to earn bonus points with extra-accurate driving.
Protip VS mode: (2 players) Go head-to-head with a friend in split-screen races that give you even more reason to ensure you make it to the checkpoint as quickly as you can. Will you leave your opponent trailing in your wake as you race in the heat of the day, under the stars, or against the backdrop of the setting sun?
Note: An additional Wii MotionPlus accessory is required to play with a 2nd player in VS mode.

Power Cruise over the waves before the timer hits zero. One of the makers of the Wave Race series worked on this. Take a look.

Canoeing

How to play: Hold the Wii Remote vertically in both hands as if it is a paddle, with the + Control Pad facing you. Replicate the action of paddling by moving the Wii Remote down and then pulling it back. You can steer by making your Mii paddle on the left or right hand-side of the canoe.
Protip Speed Challenge mode: (1-4 players) Join up to three other players and paddle for all you’re worth as you try to reach the finishing line within the time limit. Beginner, Intermediate and Expert levels will test your Canoeing caliber and capacity for teamwork to the limits.
Protip VS mode: (2-4 players) If you think your team let you down in the Canoeing Speed Challenge, you can prove your point with a Versus race. Playing alone or in a team of two, you’ll need to reach five floating checkpoints first to sink the ambitions of your rivals.
Note: Additional Wii MotionPlus accessories are required to play with up to 4 players in Speed Challenge or VS mode.

Some relaxing Canoeing. As you can see, keeping composure helps you reunite more ducklings with their mom.

Cycling

How to play: Hold the Wii Remote and Nunchuk vertically, and make your Mii pedal by shaking the controllers one after the other — as if you are beating a drum. The faster you perform this action, the faster your Mii will pedal.
Protip Road Race mode: (1-2 players) Take to the track alone or jump on a tandem with a friend for some power-sapping road races around Wuhu Island. The One-Stage, Three-Stage or Six-Stage Races challenge you to come from the back of the pack and finish as far out in front as possible.
Protip VS mode: (2 players) Do you have a rival racing friend who reckons they’re the real king of Wuhu Island’s bike trails? If so, invite them to saddle up for a split-screen contest spanning as much of the Island as you like — keeping in mind there are three computer-controlled opponents also looking to sneak into first place.
Note: An additional Wii MotionPlus accessory is required to play with a 2nd player in Road Race or VS mode.

Cycle around the island with your hands!

Air Sports

How to play: In Skydiving, simply hold the Wii Remote so it is pointing forward, twisting it in different directions to make your Mii move. To control your plane in Island Flyover and Dog Fight, hold the Wii Remote with the + Control Pad facing upwards, and twist and tilt it to direct the aircraft.
Protip Skydiving mode: (1 player) Feel the rush of the wind as you jump from a plane, then attempt to link together with other airborne Mii characters. Make the biggest chain you can and steer your flying trouble through floating rings. And don’t forget to take a few photos, then share them with your registered Wii Friends via the Wii Message Board.
Protip Island Flyover mode: (1 player) Take in more than 200 sights as you fly over Wuhu Island by day, evening and night. Points of interest are marked by an “i” symbol, and the aim of the game is to fly through as many of these “i” symbols as possible on your way to seeing as much as possible within a five minute time limit.
Protip Dog Fight mode: (2 players) The relaxing sensation of gliding over Wuhu Island is all well and good, but Air Sports offers a competitive element as well. In Dog Fight, your mission is to burst balloons that hang from the back of an opponent’s plane. Much like in Mario Kart’s Battle mode, except in the air. Whoever has the most balloons remaining after five minutes can rightfully claim the crown of fighter pilot extraordinaire.
Note: An additional Wii MotionPlus accessory is required to play with a 2nd player in Dog Fight mode.

Take a closer look at the Air Sports in Wii Sports Resort. Probably the closest you’ll get to PilotWings aerial mini-games on your Wii.
