One of the first games announced before the PSP handheld’s release in 2005 was a Gran Turismo driving simulator game. For over 4 years now we’ve asked the question: “Where is Gran Turismo: Mobile Edition for PSP?

At Sony’s E3 2009 conference we finally got an answer. Gran Turismo Mobile will be available as both a UMD at retail and as a digital download off the PlayStation Store on October 1st, 2009, in America. This, to coincide with the launch of Sony’s new PSP Go handheld.

The game’s main features are:

  • Over 800 cars included, a 100 more than the previous PlayStation 2 Gran Turismo 4 as well as the addition of Ferrari (a red Ferrari Enzo can be seen in the trailer below) which was absent from all previous titles due to Microsoft-exclusive licence agreement with Ferrari.
  • All 35 tracks from Gran Turismo 4 are featured with over 60 configurations.
  • Ad-hoc multiplayer for up to four players.
  • Gran Turismo Mobile will be centered around completing driving missions in order to advance in the game, unlike Gran Turismo 4’s open-ended map.
  • Also unlike Gran Turismo 4, cars will be awarded based on a system that is unique to each player.
  • Newly added is the ability to exchange cars between players (both online and offline). Only through trading can a player acquire all the vehicles in the game. Different cars will have different trading rules, and some must be earned.
