Capcom has announced Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles for Wii. The game is the sequel to Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and will follow-in that games footsteps with another on-rails shooting game and will be released this Winter 2009.

This time the game will be based on the Resident Evil 2 scenario and will star both Claire Redfield (sister of Chris Redfield who stars in Resident Evil 5) and Leon S. Kennedy (from Resident Evil 2 and 4).

The game will build on the on-rails shooting gameplay that players enjoyed in Umbrella Chronicles while adding a more active camera to make this game “more immersive”. As you play through the game you will shoot enemies that come into your path and will include “interactive pathways”.

Storyline-wise the game will fill in missing pieces of the Resident Evil storyline that were not covered in the original Umbrella Chronicles as well as give Resident Evil fans a new way to relive the events of Resident Evil 2. The game also supports local co-op play (wish it was online . . .) or allows you to enlist the A.I. computer to control a partner character. Additionally Capcom has added a new Evade system utilizing gestures with the Wii Remote to add a new dimension to the experience.

Update:
* Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles is a retelling of the events from Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica.
* Players will have the chance to play with Leon S. Kennedy in South America with all-new elements.
* The game may be online although it has yet to be announced or confirmed.

Capcom also announced the “Resident Evil Classics” line which will bring updated version of Resident Evil remake and Resident Evil 0 to the Wii with all new controls (although these are entirely button-based, no pointing at the screen to aim like in Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition), allowing a whole new generation of gamers to experience two of the GameCube’s best titles.

These games will release on the Wii at a price point of $30 in North America and will both hit store shelves this year.

“We are very excited to be bringing the sequel to Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles to the Wii as it’s the perfect fit for the platform,” said Mona Hamilton, vice president, marketing, Capcom Entertainment. “We are always looking for new ways to give Capcom fans a chance to experience our games. Umbrella Chronicles was a huge success for us, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles includes a more in-depth co-op experience, and we are excited to bring this exclusive content to the Wii audience.”
