The first concrete details on Sony’s upcoming mega-opus God of War 3 exclusively for the PlayStation 3 have been revealed via Game Informer’s exclusive cover-story blowout on the upcoming title (which won’t see release until 2010).

The details were taken from the upcoming issue of Game Informer and posted on the gamefaqs forums. Here they are exactly as posted by freakwave003.

New details on God of War 3 include:

* Unlike God of War 1 and 2 where there are only 15 enemies on screen, there will now be around 50 this time.
* You can ride monsters like the Cyclops and “control”.
* Kratos on the PS2 used 5,000 polygons, now he uses 20,000.
* They made the weapons “better” so it adds more variety. Like with a different weapon, you don’t get just a couple different attacks, but a whole different play style.
* The lion gauntlets are called Cestus.
* Enemy AI’s are a lot smarter. Some of the enemies will be “commanders” and control the other grunts.
* Enemies will look different, even if they’re the same type. Like, even though the skeleton soldiers are in the same category, they will have varied looks, so it’s not like everyone looks the same.
* More boss fights than GoW 1, but less than GoW 2.
* No multiplayer.
* Hades boss fight confirmed.

In addition, 1UP has posted most of their God of War 3 Cover Story that includes in-depth looks into the past of the franchise including talks with the developers behind God of War 1, God of War 2 and God of War: Chains of Olympus for the PSP.

There was also this interesting little tidbit taken from 1UP’s interview:

1UP: If you were directing God of War 3, what’s the one main thing you would really want to do with it?

DJ: Well, I did a design for God of War 3 when I was still creative director, but I don’t know… I would love to tell my story of Kratos and what happens. You know, Cory [Barlog] and I — even though Cory absolutely was the main writer on God of War 2, along with Marianne [Krawczyk] — moment to moment, we all fashioned the core story together based on where we saw the plot going, which we figured out back on God of War 1. And God of War 3 is doing a really great story, and like I’ve said in the press so far, it has amazing graphics and it’s going to be an awesome game. But they’re not telling the story that I wanted to tell. They’re still telling an awesome story, but for me that’s what I would do — I would still go back and dust off that design document and say, “You know, this is where I think the story should go.”
