Punisher: No Mercy will be heading to the PlayStation Network in Spring of 2009 courtesy of ZEN Studios who has picked up the licensing rights for the Punisher franchise from Marvel Entertainment.

No Mercy a first-person shooter created exclusively for the PlayStation Network and is an arena-based FPS developed with fast-paced online multiplayer action in mind.

The game’s inspiration is rooted in the rich world of the Punisher comics and allows players to choose from an “eclectic mix of Punisher allies and villiains”. Arenas that players will battle in vary from shipyards “rife with contraband” to the birthplace of the Punisher’s archenemy Jigsaw. The game supports up to 8-players and offers a variety of solo and team-based missions. The game also offers a single-player Story mode that features exclusive artwork from acclaimed Marvel artist Mike Deodato which will feature a “Marvel team-up” with the Silver Sable against such Punisher foes as Jigsaw, Barracuda and Bushwacker.

“The ZEN developers are huge Marvel fans, and the Punisher is certainly one of our favorite characters,” said Zsolt Kigyossy, CEO of ZEN Studios. “With No Mercy, we’re creating gameplay unlike anything else found on PSN. This includes unique features like character-specific taunts, many of which were pulled directly from the comics.”
