IO Interactive have announced their newest project, Mini Ninjas, for the Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Wii and DS for a Fall 2009 release date.

The developers have warned to “Prepare yourself for a Ninja adventure like you have never seen before!”

Join Hiro, the smallest hero on the biggest adventure, as he embarks on an epic and electrifying quest to restore harmony to a world on the brink of chaos. Use your skills and mighty Ninja training to battle a magical army of evil Samurai. Harness the power of your Kuji magic and utilize the special skills of your Mini Ninja friends as you travel through a perilous world to reach the final confrontation with the Evil Samurai Warlord in his Fortress of Doom.

Abilities at your disposal include powerful sword swipes and special moves, Kuji magic which allows you to turn enemies into pandas and a flock of “Willow-sized” friends who will help you out in your quest.

“Mini Ninjas represents a truly special game for us,” said Niels Jørgensen, General Manager of Io Interactive. “The whole team is very excited about it, because it is unique in so many ways. From the art style to the characters and the depth of the game – Mini Ninjas has that exceptional appeal, which is sure to keep both young and old very entertained.”

I can’t wait to see gameplay footage of this title, at first thought it reminds me of Namco’s I-Ninja (which was a pretty fun if not great action platformer that starred a blue suited ninja with a big head) although I must say that I am very impressed with the early screenshots of the game which features a beautiful cartoony art-style. The premise definitely has me intrigued, hopefully it’ll be better than IO-Interactive’s last game, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men.
