Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 3: Explorers of the Sky coming to Nintendo DS

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 3 DS screenshotPokemon Mystery Dungeon 3 will be a new Nintendo DS game. Developer Chunsoft has been working on the next dungeon RPG in this Pokemon spin-off series.

The third installment in the series was announced in the January issue of the Japanese magazine Coro Coro. While almost no information is known about the game at this time, in the above screenshot you can see Riolu and Eevee walking in Treasure Town.

While in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness 491 out of 493 Pokemon were featured, it’s expected Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 3 will add those two missing Pokemon that appeared in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl: Arceus and Shaymin along with new forms, plus Giratina’s and Rotom’s newly introduced forms.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of the Sky scanJanuary 13 update: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of the Sky will be released in Japan in Spring 2009 and will continue the story started in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness. The game will have 5 new starters, including ones from the previous games; 19 total, but 2 will be removed. The 5 new ones are: Phanpy, Evee, Riolu, Shinx, and Vulpix. New features include a future storyline with the mysterious return of Grovyle the Thief and the beginning of the Wigglytuff Guild with you playing as some of the founding members. — Thanks to DarkraiFan1 for the tips.

July 10 update: Nintendo announced that in North America the game will be released on October 12, 2009. Europe and Australia might not see release until 2010.
