Giant EPA battle-mech reigns down bullets in new F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin trailer

Pre-Order F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin on PCTickle me confused. A new trailer for F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin reveals a walking EPA battle-mech that players can get inside to reign down fire and brimstone . . . err, bullets and missiles, upon your foes with ease.

The mech allows for maximum destruction as the world lights up with flashes from an endless stream of gunfire via the mechs two arm-mounted chain guns, shoulder mounted rocket launcher, thermal vision, “self-repair system” and, perhaps craziest of all, unlimited ammo!

Why am I confused? Well I admit I never played the first F.E.A.R. (First Encounter Assault Recon), but something about this trailer just seems out of place. Where is the “fear”? How can you be scared at all when you’re walking around in a giant mech blowing the living daylights out of every moving thing with ease? (thanks to the self-repair system!)

I’m sure this is only one aspect of the game (which I haven’t really been following) but if I would’ve seen this trailer and not known what game it was attached to and you asked me to guess from a list of titles, F.E.A.R. 2 would probably be the last one I’d pick.

It does mention the mech is available in both single-player and online matches, so maybe it is more for multiplayer. Or maybe they were in the first game too?

Regardless of whether the mech-gunning action fits what I’d expect from a F.E.A.R. title or not, there is one thing I can’t deny. It looks MIGHTY fun. Check out what I mean in this new trailer.
