Dragon Quest X, the 10th entry in the extremely popular RPG series, has been revealed for Wii by series creator Yuji Horii at a Square Enix press conference. No other details were given on the game including a release date, price, or any details on gameplay, storyline or characters.
This is not a huge surprise considering that the latest game in the franchise, the yet-to-be-released Dragon Quest IX, is an exclusive to Nintendo’s DS handheld. So it would only seem natural that the company would graduate to Nintendo’s Wii system.
Since Dragon Quest X will be on the Wii, it will be the first current-gen entry in the franchise and the latest console release. Dragon Quest VIII was the previous console game in the series, and was released on the PS2 in 2005 in the U.S. and was the first title in the series to be released outside of Japan with the “Dragon Quest” name instead of “Dragon Warrior”, as it was previously called outside of Japan.
Square Enix also saw fit to reveal the Japanese release date for the DS Dragon Quest IX game at the press conference. Dragon Quest IX will be released in Japan on March 28th for 5,980 yen.
