Wario Land Shake It Wii BoxartWario Land: Shake It is an all new 2D side-scrolling game in the Wario Land franchise for the Wii. It stars Wario, Mario’s greedy, foul-smelling counterpart who in his first new game in the Wario Land series since Wario Land 4 in 2001!

What’s really cool is that the game employs the use of anime cut-scenes to tell the story. In addition the cut-scenes are produced by famed anime studio Production I.G.

Take a look at the Japanese anime intro below. But first, here are the plot details:

Within an Ancient Globe (an old, giant globe exhibited at a museum), there is another world called Yuretopia (“yure” = tremor/shaking). Yuretopia’s peace is shattered by the marauding pirate Shay King. Queen Melfull and her Melfull subjects are imprisoned. Not only that, Shay King claims the legendary treasure “Deldel Purse,” which spits out coins whenever it is shaken. Captain Maple Syrup, the female pirate, observes Yuretopia’s crisis from the outside world. Setting her eyes on the legendary treasure but with no desire of doing the dirty work herself, she steals the Ancient Globe and sends it to Wario. True to form, Wario prepares to raid the beleaguered kingdom when one of the Melfull escapes to the outside world in hopes of finding help. Beseeched by the Queen to become a hero to the kingdom, Wario sets off to Yuretopia where the promise of vast treasures beckon.

To play Wario Land: Shake It you hold the Wii Remote side-wise, to compliment the classic side-scrolling gameplay. With the Wii Remote controller turned sideways like an old-school controller, veterans and newcomers alike can run, jump and smash their way through hectic side-scrolling stages. Players shake the Wii Remote to help Wario take down his enemies, empty bags of treasure or cause earthquakes. Best of all, there are numerous stages each offering multiple missions to keep players coming back again and again to unlock everything, collect more coins or just improve their best times.
