WiiWare gets Mega Man 9 and Adventure Island sequels

8-Bit Mega Man in all his splendor!Mega Man 9 is heading to WiiWare as a Wii exclusive!

Mega Man 9 will return the series to it’s 8-bit roots, literally, as the Blue Bomber (Mega Man’s nickname) returns to fight an all-new roster of silly-named bad guys with “Man” in their title . . . . with one extremely notable exception. Here’s the villain list:

Magma Man
Galaxy Man
Jewel Man
Concrete Man
Hornet Man
Plug Man
Tornado Man
Splash Woman (i.e., notable exception)

. . . I’ll avoid making any jokes about “Plug Man” . . .

The developer on the game is non other than Inti Creates, a company made of ex-Capcom employees who have worked on both the Mega Man Zero and Mega Man ZX franchises.

Mega Man ZX Advent for DSMega Man character designer Keiji Inafune said the 8-bit look is intentional. Speaking to Nintendo Power (who got the exclusive scoop on the story), he said: “The moment you’ve been waiting for is here! We’re not just giving you Mega Man 9, we’re giving you a new NES game. This is a game that brings back the fun of the old games, and I hope you all enjoy it!” No release date yet but I’m sure it’ll hit sometime this year. Capcom has also debunked rumors that Mega Man 9 is also heading to PS3 and Xbox 360, saying it’s a WiiWare exclusive.

Adventure Island on NESAlso heading to WiiWare is a new Adventure Island game! According to statements made by Takahashi Meijin (the real-life basis for the Master Higgins character from Adventure Island) in a conference call, Hudson is in the earliest stages of planning a new Adventure Island game, “probably” for WiiWare.

There are no details yet, but Takahashi expressed concern about “forcing” motion control into the game, saying it would “change what the game is about.”

Regarding other Hudson WiiWare titles, Hudson’s Mike Pepe said that between Alien Crush, Blue Oasis, and Karaoke Joysound Wii, “two out of three” would be localized for North America, and that more details would be known about a month before the release date. You can’t be sure about which will be excluded from localization, but two of those games don’t rely on multiple music licensing deals (meaning the Joysound Wii is the most likely not to be localized).

In addition, Hudson is working on a “puzzle action” title that may use the Balance Board.
