What are the differences between Okami’s Wii and PS2 versions?

Okami for WiiAs one of the last PS2 games to be released before the PS3’s launch, Okami received raving reviews, but suffered from less than expected sales, despite selling over 336,000 copies in America & Japan. With Clover Studio closed and reintegrated into Capcom, American developer Ready at Dawn got the job to port the game over to Wii after online fan support on Capcom’s forums. The Wii version added 480p and widescreen output support and of course the much-wanted motion controls for the painting gesture-system to perform in-game miracles. While that works very intuitive, other aspects to the controls were found to be weaker, particularly in combat. The best example of this comes from the Nintendo Power review that even recommended the PS2 version of the game over the Wii, because: “Though you can overcome the drawing and attacking issues with practice (and by sticking to whip-style weapons), it’s a hurdle you shouldn’t have to leap.”

Okami for PS2Outside of the control changes, the biggest difference becomes clear in a comparison of the PS2 and Wii graphics. The below comparison will show that a “paper parchment” filter applied to all on-screen elements that was readily apparent in the PS2 version is still present in the Wii, but is much less significant
