Soma Bringer gameplay video and trailer

Soma Bringer DS Japanese BoxartSoma Bringer is an all-new DS action RPG from Monolith Soft and Nintendo.

Monolith Soft is most famous as the company that brought us the beautifully complex cinematic RPG Xenosaga and it’s sequels (most of it’s staff came from Square where they worked on Xenogears and Chrono Chross for PS1) as well as the GameCube RPG sequel Baten Kaitos Origins. Monolith was recently acquired by Nintendo after Namco Bandai sold it’s stock in Monolith to Nintendo, giving Nintendo a controlling stake in the company and making it a Nintendo first-party.

As can be seen in the Soma Bringer trailer, they have lost none of their cinematic gusto with their transition to the Nintendo DS and once again they seem to have crafted a beautiful RPG. Little is known about the game other than that it is an action RPG where you can string together large combos and that you will control a three-person party. Which is pretty much par for the course with RPGs so we’ll have to wait to get some more info on this one.

One thing is for sure though, the game will have a stunning soundtrack, as you can get a sample of in the trailer. The Soma Bringer soundtrack CD is actually three discs worth of music! It also may be worth noting that the story/script is penned by Tetsuya Takahashi and Soraya Saga with character designs by Tadahiro Usuda. All of them were instrumental in the Xenosaga series, which just about guarantees that this game is aiming for the stars when it comes to RPG design on the DS.

Sadly the game does not yet have a release outside Japan but let’s hope it gets one! Check out a gameplay video below as well as the Japanese trailer for the game.
