Gears of War prequel book titled The Pendulum Wars: The Battle of Aspho Fields

Gears of War: The Pendulum Wars - The Battle of Aspho Fields bookGears of War: The Pendulum Wars – The Battle of Aspho Fields is a book prequel to the Gears of War game. As we announced back in June 2007, writer Steven Kent (of The Ultimate History of Video Games: From Pong to Pokemon fame) signed a multi-book Gears of War deal with Epic, of which the first 352-page book will be released in August 2008 at a price of $12.95.

To quote: “The Battle Aspho Fields builds upon the characters backstories and gives eager fans their first in-depth look at some of the past events that shaped the games world.” As you might remember it was Carmine who in the game asked “Are you the Marcus Fenix? The one who fought at Aspho Fields?” and that’s because over several decades, the Pendulum Wars took place between various human countries, and ended with the Coalition of Ordered Governments (COG) taking control of the planet. The war quickly came to an end on “Emergence Day”, when a ravenous force known as the Locust Horde bursts from underneath major human cities using a network of underground tunnels, which is when the first game takes place.

Sadly no word on Epic’s Gears of War 2 game sequel or New Line Cinema’s Gears of War movie yet. But look at the bright side, at least you know you’ll be able to read a novel trilogy… 😀 🙂 😐 🙁 😥
