Assassin’s Creed developer diary discusses freedom in the game

Pre-Order Assassin's Creed for PS3Another developer diary is here to give us an in-depth look at the highly anticipated Ubisoft epic Assassin’s Creed. In this developer diary, the Creative Director on the title, Patrice Desilets, discusses the theme of “Freedom” in the game. Previous developer diaries focused on the Assassin’s Creed storyline, the Artistic Design of Assassin’s Creed and Behind the Scenes at Ubisoft.

Lots of new gameplay footage is shown as he discusses how every surface in the three huge cities is completely interactive. You get a fly-by of those cities, as well as discussion on the ability of choice within the game, such as how you want to pursue accomplishing an objective. They talk about their new term “Flower Box” (as opposed to “Sandbox” which typically mean games like Grand Theft Auto, that have a huge open environment where you can have fun just playing around). “Flower Box” relates to how things are set by the developer to help tell their narrative, but within that environment player’s have a wide-array of freedom to do things how they choose by utilizing the set pieces placed by the developer. And they discuss the game’s Organic Design, where everything should seem plausible within the game and not too far removed from reality.

As always, Assassin’s Creed is looking phenomenal, and everyone should be keeping their eye on this one. Assassin’s Creed has a release date of November 13th in the US, November 16th in Europe and simply “November” (so far) in Australia. It’ll appear on Xbox 360 & PS3 first and later on PC. The video:
