Konami reveals anime adventure game Time Hollow on the DS. Look into the past with a special pen!

Time Hollow screenshot - DS Adventure Game from KonamiTime Hollow is an all-new adventure game by Konami with an anime-style for the DS that has made it’s debut at TGS.

Konami is no stranger to DS adventure titles having created both Lost in Blue 1 and 2, although Time Hollow is of the more traditional point-and-click variety. The game was created by Suikoden‘s Junko Kawano and acclaimed novel and screenwriter Takehiko Hata.

Time Hollow has you playing as a 17-year-old boy named Horo Tokio, who wields the “Hollow Pen”, a special pen that gives him the ability to see into the past. His adventure initially takes place in a Japanese high school and has Horo searching for his parents who have mysteriously disappeared. Horo has a dream one night that they perished in a fire when he was a young child, but waking up it turns out that they have actually been missing for 12 years. So using his pen, he must set things straight by altering not only his own past, but also that of other characters you’ll come across including his purple-haired future love interest Kanon Junibayashi.

The game world is viewed from the first-person perspective on the touch-screen while conversations with characters take place on the top. There’s also a 2D world map that you scroll around using the D-pad. When in an environment you can explore it by touching on specific areas of the room to investigate further and highlighting doors and other key paths and locations to make your way through the environment. No walking around, this is an adventure game in the traditional sense.

Of course the most innovative idea here is your Hollow Pen. By circling an area of the screen you can look into the past of specific peculiar areas. Doing this will help you solve puzzles and explore deeper into the world with mysterious new encounters, accidents that have happened and dialogue exchanges between characters, which are all revealed using the magical pen.

As you can tell by watching the official Japanese TGS 07 trailer below, all the anime cut-scenes in the game are fully voiced and they look beautiful. So far though there is no voice for in-game sequences, although Time Hollow isn’t scheduled to hit Japan until early 2008, so they still have time to make lots of additions. Check out the cool J-Pop theme song in the trailer as well. Did you catch all those English words? 😀 Hopefully Time Hollow will get picked up for a US release. I hope they keep the Japanese voice and just use subtitles, I think that’d be for the best (unless the dub is really good). Check the game out in the trailer below.
