One of the most popular South Park episodes of all time (“Make Love, Not Warcraft“, episode #147 from the 10th season of the long-running animated Comedy Central show) has won an Emmy! So I guess gaming has reached another new benchmark.
It won in the category of “Outstanding Animated Program (Less Than One Hour)” at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards that were held on Saturday night in Los Angeles.
The “Make Love, Not Warcraft” episode is entirely video game focused and was actually made with the help of Blizzard, the developers of World of Warcraft, who helped to craft in-game scenes for the show (A technique known as Machinima, which uses in-game graphics to create movies, the most popular being the Halo show Red VS Blue). The episode has the South Park boys playing World of Warcraft to defeat a Player Killer (PK) that seeks to wipe out the entire world . . . of Warcraft. The episode is absolutely hilarious and easily my favorite South Park episode of all time, whether that crude type of humor is your cup of tea or not (and there are some very crude parts, including one that takes “potty humor” to . . . new levels).
If you’ve never seen the Make Love, Not Warcraft” episode, check it out in full below! 🙂
I’d definitely recommend that you buy the 10th season of South Park on DVD as well, because it also features a very fun episode that partly revolves around Cartman’s attemps to get a Nintendo Wii . . . and features a down-right hilarious bash on evolution that has to be seen to be believed.
