Marvel Comics logoThe Marvel comic book universe is no stranger to fighting games, having been featured for years in various Capcom 2D fighting games, including the ultra popular Marvel VS Capcom fighting series.

Unfortunately for fans of the aforementioned fighting game, there isn’t a new one of those (yet), but EA did just announce that they will be bringing an “original” Marvel fighting game to Xbox 360 and PS3.

You will remember EA’s last foray into Marvel fighting game territory with Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects, which hit the PS2, Xbox and GameCube back in 2005. That game was not so well received, so it will be interesting to see what they do this time around. As EA did not say whether or not this is a new installment of Marvel Nemesis or a completely new game, which may very well mean they will be changing it up significantly. I hope they do cause Marvel Nemesis could have been great if done right.

The game is being developed by EA Chicago, who’s most recent titles include Fight Night Round 3 and Def Jam Icon and the game is scheduled for release in 2008.
