Metroid II: Return of Samus for the original Game BoyOne of Nintendo’s most popular franchises is Metroid, a series of sci-fi games that star the female bounty hunter Samus Aran. The original 2D games were side-scrolling platformers, before the series finally went 3D with Metroid Prime on the GameCube, leaving it’s platform roots behind and going into more adventure territory with a splash of FPS on top.

But it’s always fascinating to take a look back into the history of a franchise, particularly when it’s done so well and so many little known facts are revealed, as is the case with this first part of GameTrailer’s 5-Part Metroid Retrospective. Enjoy!
