History of Final Fantasy retrospective (part 2). In-depth look at the games the world missed out on (Final Fantasy II & III)

Final Fantasy Origins for PS1 (includes Final Fantasy I & Final Fantasy II)In part two of GameTrailer’s Final Fantasy retrospective series (If you missed it check out the Final Fantasy Retrospective Part 1), they take an in-depth look at the two games in the series never initially released outside of Japan, Final Fantasy II and Final Fantasy III for the Japanese Famicon.

These games brought a host of new features and characters that would become Final Fantasy staples, including the introduction of the Chocobo, Moogle and Cid, as well as the job system in Final Fantasy III.

It wasn’t until the Playstation re-release of Final Fantasy II that we would finally get to play that title (as part of the Final Fantasy Origins collection released in 2003) and we will never get to play the original iteration of Final Fantasy III, instead we got a much improved and completely updated version that was just released for the DS last holiday (Nov. 14th 2006).

Very, very interesting feature. It’s great to take a look at the original versions of these games that we never got to play, and can’t ever play unless you know Japanese. But I’m glad Square released them in updated form, since the originals aren’t exactly the most pretty things to look at.
