Smarty Pants announced for Wii, first video of gameplay shown. Gesture-based party/trivia game coming in 2007

Smarty Pants, a new party/trivia game for the Wii by Electronic Arts and their new Casual Games label has been announced. It’s in development by Planet Moon (Giants, Armed and Dangerous) and in the game you use the Wii remote to answer trivia with action-based gestures for “ages eight to eighty.”

The Wii remote will be used to “make everything a game, from spinning the category wheel and tug-of-wars over correct answers, to ‘dance-offs’ for additional points.”

The title will also include a beat-the-clock family mode, and “a rapid-fire competitive mode”. The game includes both cooperative and competitive modes for a total of 20,000 questions in multiple categories!

Check the game out in action (as it would be if you were actually playing it with buddies) in this new video.

Electronic Arts says the game tailors questions to the contestant’s age, allowing people of any age to play together, and otherwise adjusts difficulty levels “to provide continuous stimulation and challenge.”

EA LA producer Daniel Hagerty said: “The gesture-based answer methods are a perfect match for the Wii. The experience isn’t just about who can press a button the fastest, it’s about getting the whole family up off the couch to get their minds and their bodies engaged.”
