Australia today recieved 14 Wii VC games including 11 TurboGrafx-16 titles never before released in AU. Bonk’s Adventure, Bomberman ’93, and Alien Crush among them

Get a Nintendo Wii at AmazonNintendo Australia today announced a huge surprise for Wii owners in that country.

Included among the three MegaDrive classics Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Golden Axe II and Ecco II: The Tides of Time are 11 TurboGrafx-16 games! (These last three MegaDrive games plus TurboGrafx-16 game Dragon Spirit will be out in Europe on Friday.)

The reason this is such a surprise is because the TG-16 was never released in Australia, and so far Nintendo has only been releasing games on the Virtual Console for systems that were released in that territory (this also applied to individual games, a major complaint of Nintendo fans).

Bomberman '93 for the TurboGrafx-16The 11 TG-16 games released today are: Bonk’s Adventure, Bomberman ’93, Super Star Soldier, Victory Run, Alien Crush, Military Madness, R-TYPE, Dungeon Explorer, Soldier Blade, Motoroader and Vigilante.

Hopefully this will be the beginning of the end of Nintendo keeping game releases on the Virtual Console region-specific. So far if a game was never released in that region, then it meant Nintendo wasn’t planning on releasing it on the VC in your country. Let’s hope Nintendo rids itself of this silly technicality!
